William Floyd Hanshaw, Thomas' grandson, once stated that his grandfather Thomas William Henshaw was 'full-blooded Irish'.13  

He married Hanah Olivar8,14 [Hannah Oliver1, Margaret Hanah Oliver2, Margaret Hannah Oliver15], Mar 2 18758,14, Jackson County, Alabama8,14.  Hanah was born Nov - 18531,5 [about 185616, about 18593,7, about 185212], Alabama1,5.  

Hanah was one-fourth Cherokee Indian.1,13  

Hanah had polio as a child and was therefore somewhat crippled.1

Living next door on one side in 1880 was the family of Warren Peter Hinshaw;17 two more houses away was the family of James T. Hinshaw;18 living next door on the other side was the family of Nancy E. Thomas and family migrated to Lawrence County, Arkansas about 1895.2  According to family oral history, Thomas (whose nickname was "Tom Cat") got into a fight with another man in the 1890s in the Paint Rock, Alabama area.  The fight might have been over a woman.  According to family folklore, either a knife or a gun might have been involved, and Thomas might have killed the other man.  In any case, Thomas and a brother (probably Jacob Robert) left Alabama and moved to Lawrence County, Arkansas.13

Thomas William Henshaw died Jun 6 1926, Denton, Lawrence County, Arkansas; age 67.1,2  According to family folklore, Thomas predicted his own death: Just before he died he had been helping others plant cotton.  When finished, he threw the leftover cotton under a tree and told them that he would be dead before the cotton produced.1  Thomas reportedly died of "sardine poisoning".1  

Hanah died Dec 25 1927, age 74.1  According to family oral history, Hanah died tragically from extensive burns.  She was staying with her son James Warren and his wife Ethel.  Warren and Ethel were going out a Christmas eve party, but Hanah didn't feel well and therefore didn't attend and stayed at Warren's house and went to bed.  After Warren and Ethel left, Hanah got up to stir the fireplace, lost her balance, and fell into the fire, burning her hands and body.  She died the next day, Christmas day 1927.  Her death certificate states "Burned - Seized with an attack of vertigo and fell in fireplace."13,24
