Fred graduated from high school in 1894 and then Davis Military School in 1896.⁹  

He married Della V. Kretchmer^1,10 [Anne Odella Kretchmer¹¹], May 6 1908^1,10, Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia^1,10.  Della, daughter of Alexander Ferdinand Kretchmer & Marie Teresa Pauline, was born May 29 1883, West Virginia.^1,2,3,11  Although formally named Anne Odella, she was always known as Della.¹¹

On Sep 12 1918 Fred Bahnson Hinshaw, age 42, registered for the World War I draft in Chesterfield County, Virginia.  He declared he was born April 9th 1876, and was then residing in Chester, Chesterfield County, Virginia where he was a carpenter employed by Harrison Construction.  He declared his nearest relative was his wife, Mrs. Dela Hinshaw of Chester.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, gray hair.⁸
