Born Apr 12 1841, Randolph County, Indiana.50,191,a,b,c,d,e,f,g
Elijah's obituary showed he was born in Randolph County, Indiana,h and several censuses confirm that he was born in Indiana,c,d,e,f but two 1920 census entries show he was born in Iowa.g,i    It appears that the 1920 census entries must be in error, as his parents were known to have been living in Randolph County, Indiana at the time of his birth.49
After his father died, when Elijah was just two years old, Elijah's brother and sister went to live with the family of uncle Thomas.j    It is not known what became of Elijah, although it is possible that he went to live with his uncle Elijah.    See: Elijah Hinshaw.
At Cherry Grove MM on 12-14-1850, Elijah, a minor, was granted a certificate to Back Creek MM.49
At Back Creek MM on 1-16-1850, Elijah, a minor, was received on a certificate from Cherry Grove MM.    Note date inconsistency with the above.50

Ruth, daughter of Taylor Sturgeon & Eunice Smith, was born Dec 2 1847, on a farm near Lake Cicott, Cass County, Indiana.n,o,p,c,d,e,f,q    (Ruth shown age 4 in the 1850 census).r
Elijah and family were shown in the 1870 census (Jun 23 1870), Jefferson Township, Cass County, Indiana:c
Elijah and family were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 2 1900), Cass Township, White County, Indiana:e
