Hattie Elizabeth Hinshaw5,6 [Harriet E. Hinshaw7,8].
Born Aug 21 1889, Petaluma, Sonoma County, California.5,6,7,8 Hattie Elizabeth and brother George David were twins.1,7,8
Hattie and George's birth was announced in the Sonoma County Tribune (Healdsburg, California) on August 31, 1889:9,10
Born to Mr./Mrs. J.D. HINSHAW, Two Rock Valley, Aug. 21, 1889, twins, son/daughter.
Hattie was raised in Two Rock, California, on her parents' farm, where one of her chores was milking cows.11 Shown at right is Hattie at age 18 in Petaluma, California, 1907.
She married John Samuel Burton1 [Samuel Burton4], Oct 26 19101, Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California1. John, son of Robert William Burton Sr. & Isabella Williams, was born Mar 28 1881, Vallejo, Solano County, California.2 John's father, Robert William Burton Sr., was from Boston, Lincolnshire, England and his mother, Isabella Williams, was from Stranraer, Scotland.1
When Hattie was 29, three Los Angeles doctors told her she had a month to live. Instead she survived. She went north to Oregon and Washington, and slept on the banks of the Rogue River. She ate raw fruits and vegetables and improved "with a little willpower and God's help."11
Hattie and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 14 1930), 235 Ralston St., San Francisco, California:4
John died Jan 12 1935, San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.1
At age 62 Hattie retired. Shortly thereafter she read a newspaper ad for a motorcycle for sale for $50. The next evening, Hattie was the owner of a new motorcycle and could hardly wait until she could "get out and see the country." She was often seen with her saddle bag packed with bait and a pole tied to the back of her motorcycle as she pulled off toward some fishing spot.11
