Uriah's ancestry was once mysterious, but now seems to be clear. About 1910, Edna Harvey Joseph (a genealogist who contributed greatly to the work of William Wade Hinshaw) visited Chatham County N.C. and interviewed Uriah's descendents (probably his children, since most were still living then). Uriah's descendents reported that his father's name was Benjamin.11
Uriah is recorded in a Judgement Docket of the Superior Court, Book C, page 18, May 15 1878 in a dispute involving the disposition of the estate of John Hinshaw. In this docket, Uriah is identified as a grandchild of Jesse Hinshaw and is listed with all the other heirs of Jesse. This then makes it certain that Uriah was the son of Benjamin, son of Jesse.11
