On Jun 5 1917 Jay Barron Henshaw, age 29, registered for the World War I draft in Hickman, Fulton County, Kentucky. He declared he was born Mar 4 1888 in Obion County, Tennessee, and was then residing in Hickman, Kentucky where he was employed as a laborer. He declared he was married, with a dependent father, wife and two children. He claimed an exemption due to "Only as In J"[..unclear..]" #9". He was recorded as short, stout, dark brown eyes, dark brown hair. Written "Jay Barron Henshaw" at the top of the draft card, the signature at the bottom appears to be written "Jay Barron Hinshaw".10
