Carlyle attended public schools in Parsons, Kansas, graduating from high school there in 1951. He received an AA degree from Parsons Junior College in 1953, a BS in Geology from Kansas State College in 1959, and an MS in Geology from Kansas State University in 1960.1
He married Patricia Lou "Patty" Stephens, Sep 17 1955, Erie, Neosho County, Kansas.1 Patricia, daughter of Andra P. Stephens & Ernestine Olive Kusel, was born Nov 19 1936, Bourbon County, Kansas.1,6,7,8,9,10
Carlyle is former Chairman and Executive Committeeman of the Advisory Council of the Department of Geology, Kansas State University. He is a member of the following scientific societies: American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (1994 Oklahoma Chapter Chairman), and the Oklahoma City Geological Society.1
In 1999 Carlyle was a consulting geologist, with offices in Oklahoma City as well as at home in Norman, Oklahoma. One of his clients was the Oklahoma Geological Survey at the University of Oklahoma.3
Patricia died Dec 3 2008, at her home, Norman, Cleveland County, Oklahoma.9,10

Patricia Lou Stephens Hinshaw
Patricia Lou (Stephens) Hinshaw of Norman, Okla. passed away the evening of December 3, 2008 at the Hinshaw home. Patty, as she was known by all, was born November 19, 1936 on the family farm in Bourbon County Kansas to Andra P. and Ernestine Olive (Kusel) Stephens. She began grade school in nearby Walnut, finishing and going on through High School in Erie, graduating in 1954. Patty became a telephone operator in Parsons, Kan., and in 1955 married Gaylord Carlyle Hinshaw of Parsons. They followed careers in the petroleum industry in numerous areas across the country, settling in Norman for good in 1978. Patty retired from IHS, a petroleum industry data collecting and publishing company in Oklahoma City in 2004. She was a lifelong giver of her time to others and to active volunteer groups. Patty was a 35 year cancer survivor and finally succumbed to its affliction. Her children are Gaylord Carlyle Hinshaw, II of Norman, Grady Lewis Hinshaw of Wimber, Pa. and Deborah Ann Hinshaw of Arlington, Va. Her sister is Mary O'Neal of Parsons and her brother is William Stephens of Winfield, Kan. Donations may be made in Patty's memory to the American Cancer Society.
In 2008 Carlyle was residing in Norman, Oklahoma.9,10 Carlyle currently (2014) resides in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.3
