James Willard Hinshaw died May 15 1930, Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas; buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas.13
James' obituary was published in the "Eureka Herald" (Eureka, Kansas) on May 19 1930 (page 1):13
James Wm. Hinshaw was born in North Carolina, July 2, 1855, and died in Eureka, Kansas, May 15, 1930, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 13 days. He gew to manhood in his native state. When a young man he came to Kansas, settling in Johnson County and later coming to Eureka where he lived 42 years until his death.
Here he was married on December 24, 1894, to Lula Osborne, who with her two sons are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving hsband and father. The sons are Orin and Waldo Hinshaw, two of Eureka's young business men.
Mr. Hinshaw was born of Quaker parents and never got away from the Quaker spirit of truthfulness and righteousness. He possessed the spirit of honesty from childhood through manhood unto death and never deviated from such course in all his business transactions throught his whole life. He was of a kind, generous and benevolent turn never shirking responsibility where known duty confronted him. He was considerate of others in his social and business relations.
As a citizen his interest was for his community and its welfare. He served faithfully and efficiently for several years on the school board in this city. In his church relations he gave himself in service as his health would allow. He served as trusstee of the Christian Church, where he held membmership for a number of years. To his family he was a devoted and kind, always greatly conserned about its welfare.
He leaves beside his wife, Mrs. Hinshaw, and two sons, Orin and Waldo, one brother, H.M. Hinshaw [sic], and a sister, Mrs. H.W. Brown, both of North Carolina, a sister, Miss Jo Hinshaw of Flagstaff, Arizona, and a sister, Mrs. W,K, Pegg, of Howard, Kansas, to mourn their loss.
Funeral service, conducted by the Rev. L.T. Faulder, was held from the Christian Church, Saturday, May 17. at 10:00 a.m. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
