Born about 1748.^3,140    (or c1747, York County, Pennsylvania).^a    (or c1742).⁴²

The Cane Creek MM records show that on 1-5-1765 Thomas & Joseph Hinshaw were received on a certificate (not mentioning from where).    Presumably this refers to this Joseph as his brother was Thomas.²

He married Ruth Marshill, 1-10-1788, Cane Creek MM, Orange County, North Carolina.^2,42    (Ruth Marshall)⁴²    Ruth Marshill, daughter of John Marshill & Ruth Hadley, was born Jun 10 1754, Augusta County, Virginia.^2,183    Joseph and Ruth were second cousins (Ruth's grandfather Jacob Marshall was the brother of Joseph's grandmother Mary Marshall).

No children.¹⁸³

The Cane Creek MM records show that on 4-5-1788 Joseph & Ruth were granted a certificate to Deep River MM, N.C.²

At the Deep River MM on 10-6-1788, Joseph & Ruth were received on certificates from Cane Creek MM, dated 4-5-1788.²    (Ruth's entry in the record shows her certificate was from Center MM, apparently incorrect).²

Joseph Hinshaw died Nov 30 1827, Surry County, North Carolina.⁴²

Joseph's estate was settled and inventoried in 1835 as follows:^b

I Francis Armstrong, Clerk August term, 1835 Settlement of the estate of Joseph Hinshaw, dec'd Amount of said estate as returned unto the office as per clerk's certificate -- $642.18 2/4 cents. Amount paid out Viz. William Hinshaw $416.00 Benjamiin Hinshaw $10.00 Rebecca York (Hinshaw) $10.00 Stephen Hinshaw $12.20 Ditto $12.20 Robert Mony $12.20 Elizabeth Case $12.20 Mony Hadly $13.94 Rebecca Hadly $13.94 Wm. Hinshaw $2.00 Elizabeth Creekmore (Hinshaw) $2.00 Mary Vestal $10.00 Jonathan Hinshaw $5.00 Benjamin Hankin $12.00 Jonothan Hinshaw $10.00 The above is a true copy of the vouchers presented against the estate of Joseph Hinshaw, dec'd by Joseph Carter Adm. of said estate all of which has been examine and allowed.
