    (Abel C. Hinshaw)47,74,121,a,b    (Able C. Hinshaw)c    (Abel Henshaw)58,d
Born Feb 10 1842, probably Clinton County, Ohio.e
Abel was shown age 19 in the 1850 Federal Census, Columbiana, Ohio.d    Note that this data from the 1850 census seems to conflict with Abel's birth date as computed from his gravestone inscription.    There are several possibilities: Perhaps the census was wrong (it happened, and frequently).    Maybe the census should be '9', not '19' (a much closer match to an 1842 birth date).    Or perhaps the gravestone is wrong, or maybe the inscription is weathered enough that a '60' looks like a '50' and therefore maybe he was actually born Feb 10 1832 (again closer to age 19 in 1850).    So Abel's birth date cannot be determined with certainty, however the Feb 10 1842 date (from the gravestone) is probably correct.
Able's brothers Amos, John and Timothy had all moved to Randolph County, Indiana about 1850.
He married Maraetta Linton, Sep 29 1859, Randolph County, Indiana.47,74,f,g    (Maretta Linton)h,b    (Aery E. Linton)g    Married by Thomas Hough, J.P.b    Maraetta was born Apr 9 1844, Indiana.i,j,g,k    Abel and his brother Amos married sisters: Maretta was the sister of Amos' wife Elizabeth Linton.l
Able C. Hinshaw was again shown in the 1860 census, Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana:g
Abel and family were again shown in the 1870 census (Aug 15 1870), Cedar Township, Boone County, Missouri:k
He then married Mary Jane (Adkins) Richardson, Jul 31 1882, Boone County, Missouri.74,h    (Mary Jane Adkins)p    (Mary Jane Atkins)q    Marriage license recorded Jul 26 1882, Boone County.r    Mary, daughter of John A. Adkins & Susan Meador, was born Apr 7 1836, Franklin County, Virginia.p,q
Mary was a widow,h having previously been married to Hugh Richardson.p    She helped Abel raise children Absolum and Leuelva, but they had no children togther.h
On Jun 16 1884, in Missouri, Mary J. Hinshaw applied for a pension as wife of Abel Hinshaw, invalid, veteran of the Indiana Infantry.s
Abel was shown in the 1890 special census of Civil War Union veterans (Jun 1890), Cedar Township, Boone County, Missouri:t
Mary died Aug 8 1912, Callaway County, Missouri; buried beside first husband Hugh Richardson, Miller's Creek Cemetery, Callaway County, Missouri.p    Mary Jane's obituary appeared in the "Daily Tribune" (Columbia, Missouri) on Friday, Aug 9 1912, as follows:x,q
