A clipping appearing in an 1899 newspaper gives this account of the celebration of the 90th birthday of Sabrah Hinshaw Hammond:11

On the 27th instant, about three hundred people assembled at the old Hammond homestead eight miles south of Asheboro to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Mrs. Sabrah Hammond, widow of the late Moses Hammond, who died at the ripe age of 89 in the autumn of '93.  The audience assembled at 12 o'clock under the great oaks of the primeval forest, in front of the residence, where religious services were conducted by the Revs. Philander White and W. R. Smith, after which a few nice presents were presented.  Everybody then assembled at a long well filled table in the grove.  The evening was spent in social conversation.  Sixty of those present were relatives of grandma Hammond, and the large crowd assembled shows the esteem, admiration and appreciation in which grandma Hammond is held by the good people who knew her.

She was a Hinshaw before her marriage and has living the following brothers and sisters: Mines Hinshaw, a prominent farmer of Guilford county, who is 75 years old, has made trigonometry a specialty, a practicing surveyor for 50 years, serving as county surveyor for Randolph.  Milton Hinshaw, a farmer living near Worthville, 78 years old.  Mrs. Levicy Cox, widow of Wiley Cox, 81 years old and living at Buffalo Ford.  Darius Hinshaw, a farmer living near Asheboro, who is 87 years old.  All the above named were present except Darius and Milton.  Two of her brothers and a sister are dead, Jas. Hinshaw, who lived to a good ripe old age, and Zebedee, who died in middle life, Juretta Cox, wife of Robert Cox, who died in the prime of life.
