He married Sarah Elliott, 11-19-1829, Marlborough MM, North Carolina.1,3,4,6,12,14  Sarah, daughter of Joseph Elliott & Ruth Wilson, was born Apr 5 1808, North Carolina.1,4,5,12  

At Marlborough MM on 9-6-1832, John, Sarah, & family were granted certificates to New Garden MM, Wayne County, Indiana.12  

At New Garden MM on 12-15-1832, Sarah & child, Ruth, were received on a certificate from Marlborough MM, N.C. - endorsed to West Grove MM.  On 1-19-1833, John & son Quinton were also received on a certificate from Marlborough MM "endorsed by this meeting to West Grove & back to this meeting Dec 15-1832 [sic]".  On 2-16-1833, New Garden MM recorded "Certificate received for Sarah & daughter Ruth from Marlborough MM, N.C.; endorsed from West Grove".15  

At West Grove MM in 12-1832, Sarah & daughter Ruth were received on a certificate from Marlborough MM, N.C., at New Garden MM & endorsed over to West Grove MM.  In 1-1833, John & son Quinton were similarly received.3  

Sarah died Apr 5 1833, buried in North Carolina.1,4,16  

At West Grove MM in 12-1833, John & son Quinton were granted a certificate to New Garden MM.3  

At New Garden MM on 3-15-1834, John & children Quinton & Ruth were granted a certificate to Duck Creek MM.15  

At Duck Creek MM on 4-24-1834, John & children Quinton & Ruth were received on a certificate from New Garden MM.3  

He then married Anna Ratliff1,3,4,6,17 [Anna Ratcliff6], 12-20-18351,3,4,6,17, Clear Springs MH, Indiana1,3,4,6,17.  Anna, daughter of Joseph Ratliff & Rebecca Lamb, was born 6-25-1814, Surry County, North Carolina.1,3,4,8,9,16  

John and family were shown in the 1840 census, Henry County, Indiana:18

At Duck Creek MM on 9-21-1845 John & family requested a certificate.  On 2-26-1846 Anna (wife of John) & children were granted a certificate to Back Creek MM.  On 5-21-1846, John was also granted a certificate to Back Creek MM.3  

At Back Creek MM on 4-16-1846, Anna & children Quinton, Ruth, Nathan, Rebecca Ann, & Cinthia were recieved on certificates from Duck Creek MM, Henry County, Indiana.  On 7-16-1846, John was similarly received.2  

John and family were shown in the 1850 census (Jul 24 1850), Green Township, Howard County, Indiana:8

Nathan Hinshaw, age 11, born in Indiana.

Living nearby in 1850 was John's widowed sister, Anna Hinshaw Cox.19  

At Honey Creek MM on 7-10-1852, John (member of Back Creek MM) was reported taking an oath.2  

Back Creek MM on 11-18-1852 recorded John "has received & administered an oath" - reported by Honey Creek MM, Iowa [sic].2  

At Back Creek MM on 9-15-1853, John was disowned for "receiving & adminstering an oath".2

At Back Creek MM on 7-17-1862, the children of John were granted a certificate to New Salem MM.2  

At New Salem MM on 7-26-1862, Nathan, Rebecca Ann, Cynthia, John, Jesse, Sarah Jane, & Benjamin F., children of John, were received on a certificate from Back Creek MM.2  

At New Salem MM on 6-25-1864, Rebecca Ann, wife of John (??), & children John, Jesse, Sarah J., & Benjamin F. were granted a certificate to Duck Creek MM, Henry County, Indiana.2  

At Duck Creek MM on 9-22-1864, Rebecca Ann and John Jr., Jesse, Sarah J., & Benjamin F. were received on a certificate from New Salem MM.3  

He then married Nancy Boyle22 [Nancy Boyd10, Nancy Byrket23,24,25, Nancy Byrkitt4], Mar 3 186422, Henry County, Indiana22.  Nancy, daughter of Jacob Byrket & Eve Sheats4,10,13,24,25,26, was born Jun 21 18254,10,13,24,25,26 [about 182627,28, Jun - 183029], Indiana4,10,13,24,25,26.  

Nancy had been previously married to Patrick Boyle, Feb 27 1845, Henry County, Indiana,28,30,31,32 by whom she had children Mary J.,26,28 James,10,26,28 Josephine, Alice, and Eliza/Louisa Boyle.10,26  Note that John's son Jesse married Nancy's daughter, Josephine Boyle.

John Hinshaw died May 4 1882, age 74y 7m 12d.1,4,34  

Nancy remarried to a William Keesling, Jan 28 1894, Henry County, Indiana.27,35  

Nancy and husband were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 11 1900), Fall Creek Township, Henry County, Indiana:29

Keesling, William, head-of-household, age 73, born Jan 1827 in Ohio; parents born in Virginia; married 6 years; occupation: farmer, retired; owned home (free).
Keesling, Nancy, wife, age 69, born June 1830 in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; married 6 years; no children.

Nancy died Mar 18 1904.27  

Also see: John Hinshaw #8482 who married Dorotha Graves in 1862 [or 1872] Howard County, Indiana, which might actually be an additional marriage for this John.36
