He married Bertha Ann Gagan2,5 [Bertha Gogan1], Nov 12 19032,5, Rose Hill, Butler County, Kansas2,5.  Bertha, daughter of William Gagan & Hannah Long, was born Nov 30 1884, Douglass, Kansas.2,3,4  Note that John's brother Loren married Bertha's sister Clemma Gagan.1,2  

John developed very bad asthma after working in the oil fields of Kansas.2  He was also a tenant farmer.2  

John and family were shown in the 1920 census (Jan 16 1920), Walnut Township, Butler County, Kansas:3

Hinshaw, Vera, daughter, age 15, born in Kansas; parents born in Kansas; attended school.
Hinshaw, Opal, daughter, age 11, born in Kansas; parents born in Kansas; attended school.

Hinshaw, Deloss L., son, age 16, born in Kansas; parents born in Kansas; attended school.
Hinshaw, Zeritha M., daughter, age 14, born in Kansas; parents born in Kansas; attended school.
Hinshaw, Neva M., daughter, age 3 years 8 months, born in Kansas; parents born in Kansas.
Whelhel [sic], Lyle H., grandson, age 3 years ? [unclear] months, born in Kansas; father born in Iowa; mother born in Kansas.

John Clarence Hinshaw died Nov 8 1952, Wichita, Kansas; buried Friends Cemetery, on Silknitter Road, east of Rose Hill, Butler County, Kansas.2,8  John died from asthma.2  

John's memorial was recorded as follows:2

We pause today for this memorial service for John Clarence Hinshaw, born April 23, 1882 at Rose Hill, Kansas.  He departed this life Nov. 8, 1952 at the age of 70 years.  He was married Nov. 12, 1903 to Miss Bertha Gagan.  To this happy union were born seven children, six daughters: Mrs. Vera Sherwood
Josie who preceeded him in death.  
Mrs. Opal Cox
Mrs. Lavon Wilks
Mrs. Zeritha Wilks
Mrs. Neve Withrow
and one son DeLoss.  
In addition to the widow Bertha and children, he leaves to morn [sic] his passing one brother Loren Hinshaw and 25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Mr. Hinshaw was a great man of faith and has taken an active place in the church of his boyhood the Friends Church then moving to the city, he became a member of the Salvation Army.  A host of friends mourn his passing and pray God's blessing on the family.

Bertha died Aug 29 1964, Kansas; buried Friends Cemetery, on Silknitter Road, east of Rose Hill, Butler County, Kansas.2,8  

Bertha's death was reported in an obituary in "The Wichita Eagle", Sunday, August 30, 1964:2

BERTHA ANN HINSHAW
Mrs. Bertha Ann Hinshaw, 79, of 1331 S. Millwood, died Saturday.  She was born November 30, 1884, at Douglass, Kan., and had lived in Wichita most of her life.  She was a member of the Salvation Army North Corps.  Survivors include Mrs. Paul Sherwood, 1331 S. Millwood, Mrs. J. Clyde Cox, New York City, Mrs. Vernon Wilks, Rose Hill, Kan., Mrs. Francis Wilks, South Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Withrow, Agency, MO.; a son, Rev. DeLoss Hinshaw, Chillcothe, MO.; two sisters, Mrs. Clemma Hinshaw and Mrs. Blanche Cox both of Augusta; 26 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Rose Hill Friends Church with burial in the Rose Hill Friends Cemetery.  Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home has charge.

Bertha's death was also noted in "The Constitution Tribune" (Chillicothe, Missouri) on Thursday, September 3, 1964:9

HINSHAW DIES IN KANSAS

Mrs. Bertha Hinshaw, 79, died Saturday morning in Wichita, Kan.  The body is at the Byrd Snodgrass Funeral Home in Wichita and the memorial service will be held Tuesday at the Friends church near Rosehill, Kan.  

Mrs. Hinshaw is the mother of the Rev. Deloss Hinshaw, minister of evangelism of the Methodist church.
