Jacob Hinshaw3 [Jacob Henshaw4, Martin Jacob Hinshaw1,2].

Born about 1751.3

He married Sarah Martin, 1782.1,2,3  Sarah Martin, daughter of George Martin & Sarah Dixon, was born 7-30-1766, Orange County, North Carolina.1,5,6

Three Martin sisters married Hinshaws:

Sarah Martin married Jacob Hinshaw
Sarah's sister Rachel married Jacob's first cousin William Hinshaw
Sarah's sister Mary married Jacob's first cousin John Hinshaw (William's brother)

At Cane Creek MM on 1-5-1782 Jacob Hinshaw Jr. was disowned.5  No reason for the disownment known.  Because of the proximity to his marriage date, one might assume that he was disowned for being married "contrary to discipline" or similar.7

Jacob was shown in the 1809 Taxpayers Census, Jefferson Township, Ross County, Ohio.8

Jacob was again shown in the 1812 Taxpayers Census, Ross County, Ohio.9

Jacob and family were shown in the 1820 census, Ross County, Ohio:10

Jacob Henshaw household:
1 male age 16-26 (Nathan).
2 males age 26-45 (George and/or Isaac and/or Reuben).
1 male over age 45 (Jacob).
1 female age 10-16 (Rachel and Rebecca).
3 females age 16-26 (Sarah and Jane).

1 male 30-40 (George or Nathan)
1 male 40-50 (Isaac, Reuben or Nathan)
1 male 70-80 (Jacob)
2 females 20-30 (Rachel and Rebecca)
2 females 30-40 (Sarah and Jane)
1 female 60-70 (Sarah)
Various Cox and Dixon relatives (his widowed sister Rebecca Cox, plus various nephews and cousins) are all around close nearby.4

Jacob Hinshaw died Aug 16 1837, Ross County, Ohio.3

Widow Sarah is shown in the 1840 census, Ross County, Ohio, as head of household:12

1 female 70-80; 4 females 10-15; 2 females under 5.
1 male 50-60; 1 male under 5.
It appears that Sarah had taken in another family (possibly son Reuben).  Living nearby is Jacob's sister Rebecca Cox as well as several Dixon relatives.12
