On Jun 5 1917 Pless Henshaw, age 22, registered for the World War I draft in McIntosh County, Oklahoma. He declared he was born April 16 1895 in Winchester, Tennessee, and was then residing in Checotah, Oklahoma where he was married and a self-employed farmer (near Onapa, Oklahoma). He claimed an exemption due to "support of wife". He was recorded as tall, slender, blue eyes, light hair.8
In the 1920 census Ernest was shown living in the household of his sister Alice:2

HENSHAW -- In Martinez, Calif., February 19, 1967, Ples Henshaw, dearly beloved husband of Rose Ethel Henshaw of Riverbank, father of Robert Ernest Henshaw of Riverbank, brother of Mrs. Virgie Steen and J. T. Henshaw of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ruby King and Ellis Henshaw of Illinois. A native of Tennessee, aged 72 years. Final services will be held Wednesday, February 22, at 10 a.m. in THE RIVERBANK MEMORIAL CHAPEL and burial in Oakdale Memorial Park, Oakdale.
