Born 8-22-1846, Richland, Keokuk County, Iowa.1,3,8,9
Ezra was shown in the 1870 census (Jun 8 1870), Jefferson County, Iowa, living and working in the household of a Lot & Jane Johnson:10
Johnson, Lot, age 21, born in Iowa; farmer.
Johnson, Jane, age 18, born in Iowa; keeping house.
Hinshaw, Ezra, age 23, born in Iowa; farm laborer.
Johnson, Wm, age 19, born in Iowa; farm laborer.
He married Glaphrey Goodman1,2,3,9 [Galaphrey Goodman1], 10-14-18711,2,3,9. Glaphrey was born Aug 18 18473,11,12 [Aug - 18486], Iowa6.
Medical: Tay-Sachs: There is strong evidence that Galaphrey was a carrier of Tay-Sachs disease. Her son Virgil was apparently a carrier as grandchildren from both of his wives have been shown to have the gene.13 Since the Tay-Sachs gene is carried with people of eastern European Jewish ancestry, it is probable that Galaphrey was of eastern European ancestry and also might possibly have been Jewish.13
Ezra Ira Hinshaw died Sep 11 1877.1,3,9
At Richland MM on 7-6-1878, Galaphrey & minor children Miles Clark, Della, Virgil, & Julia were received by request.1
