Born 11-5-1794, Surry County, North Carolina.1,2,4,10

He married Welmet Williams3,11 [Wilmet Williams1,2,4, Wilmett Williams12], about 18163,11.  Welmet was born 12-23-17961,2,4,7,9,10,13 [about 17988], North Carolina1,2,4,7,9,10,13.

At Cane Creek MM on 9-17-1816, Welmet Hinshaw (formerly Williams) condemned her marriage "out of unity".11

Note that son Benjamin had already been born four months earlier (5-8-1816), so either Isaiah and Welmet were married sometime in 1815 or earlier, or they were married while Welmet was pregnant with Benjamin (was this what they meant in this case by "out of unity"???).

Welmet seems to have been an orphan.  In 1814 an unidentified Jesse Hinshaw became guardian for Welmet and Susanna Williams (presumably Welmet's sister), who had formerly been under the guardianship of a Thomas Ward.14

At Cane Creek MM on 10-2-1819, Welmet was granted a certificate to White Water MM, Wayne County, Indiana.11

Welmet (and Isaiah) left Cane Creek only weeks after publicly condemning their "marriage out of unity" - was there some societal pressure that made Cane Creek and unpleasant place for them?

At Whitewater MM (Indiana) on 11-27-1819, Welmet was received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM, N.C.2

At Whitewater MM on 5-26-1821, Susannah, daughter of Isaiah, was received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM, N.C.2

On Nov 6 1824, Isaiah purchased land from the U.S. government in Morgan County, Indiana (Township 14, Range 1E, Section 34).15

At Whitewater MM on 12-18-1824, Isaiah, wife Welmet, and children Benjamin, Susannah, & Hannah were granted certificates to White Lick MM, Morgan County, Indiana.2

At White Lick MM on 2-12-1825, Isaiah & son Benjamin, and Wilmet & daughters Susannah & Hannah were received on certificates from Whitewater MM.3

At White Lick MM on 6-12-1839, Isaiah & wife Wilmet and children Susannah, Hannah, Isaiah, Elizabeth, Tilman P., Welmet & Annetta were granted certificates to Salem MM, Iowa.3

At Salem MM (Iowa) on 9-28-1839, Isaiah and sons Isaiah & Tillman, and Wilmet and daughters Susanna, Hannah, Elizabeth, Wilmet & Asenath, were received on a certificate from White Lick MM (Indiana) dated 6-12-1839.4

Isaiah and family were shown in the 1840 census, Jefferson County, Iowa:16

1 male age 10-15 [Isaiah Jr.].
1 male age 40-50 [Isaiah].

Isaiah's will was dated "13 day of 10 month 1844"; probated Dec 21 1844.  In his will he mentions "all my children male and female" (none mentioned by name).  The will was brought to court by his son Benj. W. Hinshaw and attested by Jonathan Hadley and John F. McPherson.  His wife, Welmet, was named executor.17

Widow Wilmet Hinshaw and family were shown in the 1850 census, Penn Township, Jefferson County, Iowa:8
