Jerry also served as an Arkansas State Representative for at least three terms.5

Jerrold Eldon "Jerry" Hinshaw, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. He was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Hamilton County, Ind., to H. Ross and Aletha Teter Hinshaw. He was a former cattle rancher and state legislator. He earned a degree in agriculture from Purdue University in 1940 and was a veteran of World War II. He served four years on the Washington County Quorum Court and 16 years in the state House of Representatives. He was a past president of the Arkansas Poultry Association, the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, the Arkansas Cattlemen's Foundation and the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeder's Association; he was founder of the Tontitown Area Volunteer Fire Department; he was a member of the board of the First State Bank; he served as commissioner and president of the Springdale Housing Authority; and was vice president of the Springdale Savings and Loan Association. He was honored in 2002 by the University of Arkansas for his contributions and service to the Department of Animal Science.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Dr. Sunny Hinshaw of Springdale, Cathryn Hinshaw of Little Rock, and Dawn Hinshaw of Columbia, S. C.; a son, Ross Hinshaw of Fayetteville; a brother, Don Hinshaw; three half-brothers, Reese, Dale and Max Hinshaw; four grandchildren and a greatgrandson.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Springdale. The Rev. Judy Van Hoose, the Rev. Creede Hinshaw and the Rev. Britt Skarda will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bluff Cemetery. Pallbearers will be B. G. Hendrix, Frank O'Donnell, Sandy Boone, Robert Bitter, Dick Barclay, Sam Fiser, Leon Zulpo, Jack Perry and Reid Holiman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arkansas Cattlemen's Foundation Museum, 310 Executive Court, Little Rock 72205, or to the Bread of Life food pantry, First United Methodist Church, 206 W. Johnson Ave., Springdale 72764.

Jerrold Eldon 'Jerry' Hinshaw Jerrold Eldon "Jerry" Hinshaw, a former cattle rancher and state legislator, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. He was 86.
Born Jan. 15, 1917, in Hamilton County, Ind., he was a son of H. Ross and Aletha Teter Hinshaw. He moved to Springdale in 1956 and ever since has been a member of the First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Betty, established a homeplace south of Tontitown, the Rocking Chair Ranch, which is familiar to many in the area for its scenic fishing lake.
Hinshaw was a man of many talents and interests, and his life revolved around community service. Among his pursuits were politics, big-game hunting, horse breeding, collecting antique cars and following Razorback sports. He had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a knack for telling stories. Hinshaw attended Purdue University, graduating in 1940 with a degree in agriculture. He was a veteran of World War II, earning rank of 1st lieutenant after attending Officer Candidate School.
After the war, he started his career in poultry production with the Ralston Purina Co. in St. Louis and was promoted to southeastern sales manager in 1949 in Jacksonville, Fla. Two years later, he joined Western Hatcheries in Dallas, where he became vice president. In 1956, he joined Arbor Acres, a large poultry concern with operations around the world. He came to Springdale to start a breeder farm and went on to establish hatcheries in Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil and Pakistan. He got out of poultry to start raising cattle, and his business grew into a five-ranch operation with three properties in Arkansas and two in Missouri.
He was elected to the Washington County Quorum Court in 1976, serving four years before running as a Republican for the Arkansas House of Representatives in a district covering parts of Springdale, Tontitown and Siloam Springs in Washington and Benton counties. He served 16 years, until 1996. During that time, he wrote a column for The Springdale News and was author of a book, "Call the Roll: A History of the First 150 Years of the Arkansas Legislature."
Hinshaw was involved in community service on many fronts: He was president of the Arkansas Poultry Association, being elected Man of the Year in 1962, and served as president of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, Arkansas Cattlemen's Foundation and the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeder's Association. He was a founder of the Tontitown Area Volunteer Fire Department, member of the board of the First State Bank, 1961-1989, served as commissioner of the Springdale Housing Authority, 1967-1989, including two years as president; and was vice president of the Springdale Savings and Loan Association. In 2002, the University of Arkansas honored Hinshaw for his contributions and service to the Department of Animal Science.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty, of 54 years; three daughters, Dr. Sunny Hinshaw of Springdale, Cathryn Hinshaw of Little Rock and Dawn Hinshaw and husband Michael Latham of Columbia, S.C.; one son, Ross Hinshaw of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Waylon Hinshaw, Carrie Hinshaw, Eli Latham and Graham Latham; one great-grandson, Colston Ross Hinshaw; his uncle, C.J. Hinshaw; a brother, Don Hinshaw; three half brothers, Reese, Dale and Max Hinshaw, and many other loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Springdale, with the Rev. Creede Hinshaw, the Rev. Judy Van Hoose and Britt Skarda officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.
