On Jun 5 1917 Alva Ohler Hinshaw, age 29, registered for the World War I draft in West Westfield, Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. He declared he was born Feb 8 1888 in Sterling, Kansas, and was then residing in Westfield, Indiana where he was a "Minister Friends Church" with a wife and three children. He claimed an exemption on "account Friends Church affilliat". He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair.8

On Aug 9 1919 Alva O. Hinshaw was issued a U.S. passport. He declared he was born February 8th 1888 in Rice County, Kansas, and was then residing in Winchester, Indiana, occupied as a minister. He declared he intended to visit Bolivia, Brazil and Peru for "Missionary Work". Where the pre-printed form stated "I do solemnly swear" Alva lined-through "swear", replacing it with "affirm". He was recorded as age 31, 5' 11" tall, blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, broad chin, round face.13
On Oct 8 1927 Alva and family arrived at the Port of New York on the S.S. Aidan, having sailed Sep 27 1927 from Para [, Brazil]:2

Alva Ohler Hinshaw died Apr 9 1953, at his home, Calle d'Orbigny, Riberalta, Bolivia; age 65y 2m.5,10,20 Alva died and was buried in Bolivia, where he had been serving as a Quaker missionary.21
In about 1955 Mable returned to Indiana.21
In 1970 Mable was living in/near Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana.16
