Mr. Hinshaw suffered a ruptured aneurysm on February 9, 2016, during his annual family vacation to the Big Island, Hawaii. His wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara, and children and grandchildren provided great company and comfort in his final weeks.
Mr. Hinshaw began his legal career in San Jose in 1965 with Campbell, Custer, Warburton and Britton, and thereafter practiced for nearly two decades with Rankin Oneal. In 1985, he founded his own law firm, known today as Hinshaw, Marsh, Still & Hinshaw, LLP. His career was devoted to the representation of physicians and hospitals. He was lauded for his unwavering commitment to his clients, keen knowledge of the law and medicine, and his courtroom advocacy and skills as a trial lawyer. In 1975, Mr. Hinshaw spent time in Sacramento advocating on behalf of physicians in the development of the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act legislation. Mr. Hinshaw was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. During his career, he served as a consultant to the California Medical Association. He was a three-time age-group podium finisher of the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon (1984-1986). He shared his passion for aquatic sports, bicycling, the outdoors, golf, sand dabs, shopping at the farmer's market on Saturday mornings, blackjack, body surfing, and Sharks hockey with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Hinshaw was incredibly generous and people were drawn to his intelligence, strength and loyalty. He cared deeply for his large extended family, and was steadfast in his support. A true patriarch, he led by example and instilled family values by establishing wonderful family traditions.
