Born 6-14-1785, Randolph County, North Carolina.2,3,5,6,8  

He married Rebecca Hobson, 1807, North Carolina.1,2,3,6,7,13,14  Rebecca, daughter of Charles Hobson & Sarah Beck, was born 11-25-1784, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,2,6,8,15  

Rebecca's sister Phebe Hobson married Simon's brother Ezra.  Rebecca's brother Isaac Hobson married Simon's aunt Emey Marshall.  

At Cane Creek MM on 2-3-1810, Simon and brother Ezra were complained of for their marriages "out of unity".6  On 2-3-1810 Cane Creek MM recorded:14

Cane Creek preparative Complains of Simon & Ezra Hinshaw for accomplishing their marriage out of unity.  Ephraim Doan is appointed to produce a testimony against each of them to next meeting.
On 3-3-1810 Cane Creek MM recorded:14
The friend appointed last meeting to prepare testimony against Ezra & Simon Hinshaw has produced one against each of them which was aproved [sic] of & signed.  Isaac Hobson is appointed to give or send them copies thereof & return the papers with an account of his care to next meeting.
On 4-7-1810 Cane Creek MM recorded:14
The friend appointed last meeting respecting Ezra & Simon Hinshaw, reports he has complied therewith & has returned the papers.

At Cane Creek MM on 11-7-1812, Simon, along with wife Rebecca, brother Ezra and his wife Phebe, and sister Hannah, were all "received by request".6  On 11-7-1812 Cane Creek MM recorded:14

Rocky River preparative recommends Ezra Hinshaw as one worthy to be received into membership with us, with which this meeting unites, and minutes him a member.  

Also informs that they recommend Simon Hinshaw as one worthy to be received into membership with us, with which this meeting unites and minutes him a member.

On 4-7-1829 Cane Creek MM recorded:14

Rocky River preparative informs that Ezra Hinshaw & Simon Hinshaw requests certificates for themselves & families to Indiana.  Thos Pugh & James Lindley are appointed (if no objection) to prepare one for each to next meeting.  
Also informs that Isaac Hobson requests a certificate for himself and son Jesse and their families to the same.  David Lindley & James Moody are appointed to enquire & if no objection prepare one for each to next meeting.

At Cane Creek MM, on 8-1-1829, Simon, Rebecca, & family were granted certificates to White Water MM, Indiana.  During that same year, Simon's mother, Rebecca, sisters Ruth and Rebekah, brother Ezra and family, and brother Thomas and family, were all granted certificates to White Water6 (perhaps because their father had died four years earlier).  

At Whitewater MM (Indiana) on 12-22-1830, Simon & family were received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM, N.C., endorsed to Vermillion MM, Illinois.16  

Simon and family settled in Danvers, McLean County, Illinois in September of 1830, settling in Stout's Grove, about 14 miles west of Bloomington.1,7,17  

On Oct 18 1834 he purchased from Nathaniel A. Ware, for a consideration of $137.50, a tract of 80 acres described as the E. 1/2 S.E. 1/4 29, T. 24 N., R. 1 W. 3rd P.M.17  He later purchased a number of other tracts in the vicinity and he resided on this land for the remainder of his life.17  

Simon and family were shown in the 1840 census, McLean County, Illinois.18

Simon and family were shown in the 1850 census, McLean County, Illinois, (roll 117, page 41, family #839) as follows:8,9

Rebecca Hinshaw, age 65, born in North Carolina.
Thomas Hinshaw, age 34, born in North Carolina; $800 real estate.
Marilla Hinshaw, age 32, born in North Carolina.
Delila Hinshaw, age 29, born in North Carolina.
John Hinshaw, age 22, born in North Carolina; $50 real estate.
Nathan Hinshaw, age 19, born in Illinois.

Simon Hinshaw died Jul 14 1852, Mclean County, Illinois; buried in the Hinshaw Cemetery, Danvers Township, Mclean County, Illinois.1,2,13,15  

Rebecca died Oct 12 1855, buried in the Hinshaw Cemetery, Danvers Township, Mclean County, Illinois.1,2,15  

Note: Although Simon and Rebecca are believed to have been buried in the Hinshaw cemetery in McLean County, Illinois (which sits on Simon's land), no grave marker for them has yet been found.
