The Hinshaws and Marshills were apparently quite friendly. Thomas married Rebecca, while his brother Ezra married Rebecca's sister Ruth, his first cousin Benjamin married Rebecca's other sister Deborah (these three Marshill sisters married Hinshaws), and finally, Thomas' 1st cousin Jesse (Benjamin's brother) married Rebecca's first cousin (once removed) Mary, and his second cousin Joseph married Rebecca's first cousin Ruth. All of these Hinshaw-Marshill marriages occured within the sixteen-year timespan of 1774-1790.1
At Cane Creek MM on 8-6-1796, Thomas & Rebekah were granted a certificate to Center MM, N.C.1
A Thomas Hinshaw is shown in the "State Census of North Carolina 1784-1787" as being a head-of-household with:14
The Thomas Hinshaw homestead was three or four miles south of Julian, North Carolina, off road 62. In 1931, a 75 year old pear tree that he planted was still growing there.6
Thomas Hinshaw died 9-17-1825, Cane Creek MM, Randolph County, North Carolina; buried 9-18-1825, Providence Friends PM Cemetery, Providence Township, Randolph County, North Carolina.1,2,6,7,12,13,15
A will bearing Thomas Hinshaw's name, dated 8-7-1825, was offered to the Probate Court of Randolph County. However the judge ordered the will be reviewed by a jury, and the jury returned a finding that the will was not the proper last will and testament of Thomas Hinshaw (see below).
After Thomas' death, at Cane Creek MM on 4-4-1829, Rebekah was granted a certificate, along with daughters Ruth and Rebekah, and son Thomas & family, to White River MM, Indiana. Later that same year, son Simon and family, and son Ezra and family were also granted certificates to White River.1
At White River MM (Indiana) on 12-5-1829, Rebecca and daughters Rebecca & Ruth were received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM, endorsed to Springfield MM.8
In the 1830 census Rebecca was apparently enumerated in the household of her son Thomas in White River Township, Randolph County, Indiana.16
Rebecca Marshill died 9-24-1836.12,17
